Our Commitment

UNHS is dedicated to working together to combat climate change through collaboration, raising awareness for and prompt action to create a healthy planet and bring prosperity to all.

About Us

About

The Beyond COP team started as a collaboration between UNA-USA, UNA Scotland and UN House Scotland. The aim of our events was to invite climate activists and researchers involved with the annual UNFCCC COP. Events were therefore organised after that year’s COP to discuss outcomes and how individuals and organisations could help. A report was published after every event.

The last Beyond COP event featured youth climate activists across the world speaking on the impact of the climate crisis on their own local communities and their efforts to find and implement solutions.

While the Beyond COP team does accept interns from UNHS, the project is a UNA Scotland initiative.

Previous Beyond COP Events

Beyond COP28

COP28 was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates between 30 November and 13 December 2023. As a follow up, on Tuesday 27th February, the UNA Scotland Beyond COP team hosted our third COP event, titled ‘Beyond COP: Conversations with Youth’. This virtual event aimed to engage all citizens of the globe to reflect on the outcomes of COP28, and to collaboratively discuss solutions for climate issues and the best ways to advance the green transition. The program was hosted virtually on Zoom, permitting for a panel discussion from our speakers consisting of three main questions, culminating in an extended question-and-answer section ex post the session. The speakers were made up of people from different academic, political and legal backgrounds, all offering insightful analysis of action points and community driven initiatives to foster the goals and objectives of COP28.

Beyond COP27

On 6-18 November 2022, the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP27) was held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. As part of an ongoing series of discussion events in relation to the COPs, UNA Scotland in partnership with UNA-USA and UN House Scotland held a post-COP27 virtual event: ‘Beyond COP27: A Future for Our Planet’ on the 6th of December 2022. The event was attended by approximately 90 participants from all 5 UN regions and from across all ages, who contributed to discussions around climate change and energy and how we may best bridge continents to help one another and generate solutions.

Focusing on the energy aspect of COP27 is a deeply important and topical issue affecting millions of people globally. However, there is a discrepancy in its effects, as shown today, varying by region and country. In order to fully understand the crisis and work on equitable solutions, it is therefore crucial to bring to life people’s lived experiences of climate change and the energy crisis.

The event was held on 6 December 2022.
